I devote part of my practice to the care of persons who currently work or have formerly worked in a healthcare profession. I focus specifically on treating burnout, moral injury, and moral distress associated with the contemporary practice of healthcare. This professional focus became increasingly important to me over the past several years, more especially in response to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on our healthcare system.

I have a unique clinical and educational training as a vocational psychologist, which is a psychologist who focuses on work-related decisions and issues. My former experience in higher education as a career counselor and research focusing on work- and organizational psychology helps me best address concerns such as anxiety, perfectionism, workaholic behavior, depression, occupational burnout, moral injury, work-related stress, organizational dysfunction, and unhealthy work-related behaviors.

Identity-based conflicts occur at various stages in our lives. Navigating identity conflicts can be particularly stressful. I enjoy dedicating part of my practice to those exploring new identities or intersecting identities (e.g., navigating work- and family- roles or reconciling faith with sexuality). These concerns tend to occur for many people and therapy can be a useful tool in the exploration process. I am a LGBTQI+ affirming therapist.

Normative views of traditional masculinity can result in fewer men seeking services for mental health concerns. The American Psychological Association recognizes that the “masculine reluctance” towards self-care limits men from seeking therapy for varying issues. Part of my practice is focused on these concerns, including: life transitions, gender identity, relationship issues, difficulty expressing emotions, intimacy, depression, anxiety, anger, substance use, and feelings of shame, hopelessness, and purposelessness.
